Died in the night of Thursday Dec. 6th 1894 at her residence in this place in the 36th year of her age Mary Ann Hanlon Ferris. The deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hanlon and has been well known in this community. She was born in Upper Canada, in 1858. Her parents came to this county settling on the well known Hanlon Home farm on Brushy, two miles northeast of this town in the fall of 1860. On that farm to which she was brought in early childhood, she grew to womanhood. Thirteen years ago the coming month she was united in marriage with Daniel Ferris and settled with him on a farm by the Rock Bluffs mill. Some years later they moved to Bayard. There the husband was taken away by consumption leaving the wife to care for five fatherless children. After his demise the mother moved here, providing herself a good residence property. Some months ago she too was attacked with lung trouble. Her disease defied the best of medical skill and the end came at the time above named leaving the five children bereft of both parents to the care of the aged grandmother, Mrs. Hanlon. Mrs. Ferris was reared in the Catholic faith and Rev. Father Foley attended her funeral service on Saturday in the Catholic chapel delivering an appropriate address. Mrs. Ferris died trusting in that Savior so beautifully described by Rev. F. W. Faber an eminent Catholic divine in a hymn that protestant and catholics alike delight to sing:
