She departed this life Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, in Cheyenne Wells at the age of 83. Mary Ann grew up on a farm in Kansas where she learned many traits from her mother and father that she used throughout her life. She was the fifth of eight children, five girls, Bea, Berneice, Margie and Alice and three boys, Clarence, Alfred and Tony. Mary Ann was the only blonde in the family as a child, which was the envy of her sisters. Mary Ann attended Bohemian Center School, attended Atwood High School, and graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Omaha, Nebraska in 1944 alongside her sister Margie. After graduating from Notre Dame, Mary Ann received a Teaching Degree from the Teachers College in Greeley, where after she taught elementary school for a few years before she married. Mary Ann was united in marriage to William Sramek on Sept. 2, 1948 in a double wedding alongside her sister Bea and her husband Bill Clark. William and Mary Ann had eight children, Pamela, Kevin, Jennifer, Sandra, DeNell, Kurt, Geretta and Kent. Mary Ann was homemaker all her life. She devoted her life raising and caring for her children doing her best to instill in them family values and the love of God. Her Catholic faith was very important to her. She was especially devoted to the Blessed Mother and the Rosary. After her husband's death in 1986, she enjoyed traveling with her sisters, which included a trip to the Holy Land and her home-land of Slavakia. Mary Ann loved attending the Heble family reunions where she and her brothers and sisters had their foolishness, talked about the good old days and laughed at the many jokes told by her brothers Clarence and Tony. Mary Ann and her sister Bea had a very special bond even up to her last day. If one of them was thinking it, the other was saying it. Even though many miles separated her and Bea, they enjoyed their daily "Holy Hour" together. Even in the last days they still had their sense of silliness with Bea telling Mary Ann that if she got to heaven first, keep one foot in the door for her. Mary Ann had many wonderful qualities about her. As the family reminisced some in particular came to mind: She was "the Matriarch," our rock of faith, the family counselor, a caregiver, the equalizer, she was strong willed, in-dependent and self reliant, strict, had great endurance, she was a great cook, an exceptional seamstress and designer with a classy sense of fashion. Down to her last day she was described as a "tough ole bird". Mary Ann was proceeded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Rose Heble, brother, Alfred Heble, sisters, Berneice Adams, and Alice Sramek, husband, William Sramek, son, Kevin Sramek and great grandchildren, Trey Beek and Adam Beek. She is survived by two brothers and one sister, Clarence (Trenton, Nebraska), Bea Clark (Ocoma, South Dakota), Tony Heble and wife Patty (Atwood, Kansas); seven children, Pamela Alcorn and husband Joe, (Colorado Springs), Jennifer Brace and husband Dan (Wichita, Kansas), Sandra Polley and husband Mike (Trinidad), DeNell Ackerman (Colorado Springs), Kurt Sramek and wife Lisa (Colorado Springs), Geretta Beek (Cheyenne Wells), and Kent Sramek and wife Julie (Cheyenne Wells) and 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, many other relatives and a host of friends. Mary Ann will be missed dearly by her family and friends. Her spirit and deep faith will live on through all who knew her. The family would like to express their deep gratitude for your many thoughts, prayers and kindness throughout her illness and subsequent passing. Memorials may be made in Mary Ann's name to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or to Keefe Memorial Hospital and may be left at or sent to the Eastern Colorado Bank, 162 W. 1 South, P.O. Box 858, Cheyenne Wells, CO 80810. Funeral services were held on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cheyenne Wells with Father Kirk Slattery officiating. Visitation was held on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Parish Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial followed in the Fairview Cemetery in Cheyenne Wells. Funeral services were entrusted to Love Funeral Home, Cheyenne Wells.
