Description	:	Mary Ann Jedlicka was born May 20, 1926 on farm east of Platte, SD to Frank and Bertha (Dvorak) Jedlicka. She attended country schools in Charles Mix County. She attended two years of high school in Geddes and then worked on the farm with her parents. After her father's death in 1946, she moved into Platte with her mother and brothers. She worked at Hetricks Bakery for a short time and then went to work for Northwestern Bell. Read More	Mary Ann Jedlicka was born May 20, 1926 on farm east of Platte, SD to Frank and Bertha (Dvorak) Jedlicka. She attended country schools in Charles Mix County. She attended two years of high school in Geddes and then worked on the farm with her parents. After her father's death in 1946, she moved into Platte with her mother and brothers. She worked at Hetricks Bakery for a short time and then went to work for Northwestern Bell. Mary Ann worked with Northwestern Bell for eight years until they changed to dial and at that time she was transferred to the Chamberlain Northwestern Bell. On March 23, 1956, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Milton F. "Sam" Lewis at her mother's home in Platte. In 1960, she was promoted to Group Chief Operator at Northwestern Bell remained there until 1963 when they went dial and she then retired. In the fall of 1963, she went to work for the Chamberlain School District working as a cook for over 18 years. She was the first cook at the Brule County Jail. They expanded their family in 1968 when their son Scott was born. She worked for the South Dakota Department Tourism at the I90 Rest Area for ten years. After retiring from the Tourism Department, she began working part time at Lake Francis Case Development and KPLO Radio in Chamberlain. Mary Ann was a member of the United Church of Christ in Chamberlain and was very involved in the Women's Groups. She was also a member of The Order of the Eastern Star for 67 years serving as Worthy Matron in 1953 in Platte, SD and as Worthy Matron in 1979 in Chamberlain, SD.
