McDowell, wife of Thomas G. McDowell, postmaster of Ellensburg, 35 years ago. Mrs. McDowell succumbed to a long and lingering illness at the age of 78. Mary A. Weaver was born in 1847 in Indiana. In the fall of 1866 she moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Weaver to Springfield, Missouri, where she was married in 1868 to Thomas G. McDowell, then of Kansas. Fourteen years later they emigrated across the plains to Washington settling in the Kittitas Valley. In 1889 Mr. McDowell was appointed postmaster of Ellensburg and moved to town to make his home. Mr. McDowell died in 1895 and in a few years, Mrs. McDowell moved to Roslyn, where her son was employed. Later she moved to the Sound, making her home with her daughter in Tacoma and Seattle. Mrs. McDowell is survived by a son living at Black Diamond; two daughters, Mrs. Will Clark of Bellingham and Miss Mabel McDowell of Seattle; four grandchildren, a brother J. N. Weaver, and a sister, Mrs. Alfred Reynolds, both of Ellensburg; a brother, Charles Weaver of Austin, Colorado, and a sister, Mrs. Oscar Kennedy of Smithfield, Missouri. Mrs. McDowell has always considered Ellensburg her home and upon her request she will be buried here beside her husband in the IOOF Cemetery. Funeral services are to be held from the First Methodist Church at 10 o'clock Friday morning, the church of which she has been a member for many years. In the absence of Rev. J. W. Coughlan, Dr. D. H. Marvin, a former pastor of the church, will conduct the services. -END-
