In her 76th year, Mrs. Mary Ann Mellon was called last Saturday afternoon to join the unnumbered hosts of the dead. Her funeral was preached at 8:30 o'clock Sunday morning by her pastor. Rev. R. P. Smith, and her body was then borne away for burial in Bethel church yard in York County. Mrs. Mellon's maiden name was Nealy. She was born and reared in Gaston County. She was the widow of the late George W. Mellon who died in 1891 and whom she married some fifty years ago. Only two children survive out of seven: Mrs. Jane Gullick of Gastonia and Mr. Ed. Mellon of Charlotte. A striking coincidence is found in the dates of the death of different members of the family. Her mother died June 22, 1855; her father June 22, 1865; Mrs. Mellon herself June 22, 1895. This good woman was a kind and devoted wife and mother, and for 58 years was a member of the Presbyterian church. With firmness and a positive character in matters of truth and right, she combined charitable feelings and conduct toward all. As her years were many and her life faithful, so let us hope even as we are taught to hope that her reward is great and her rest sweet in the home of the blest.
