OBITUARY: Springville New Era, May 8, 1919 CALVERT Mary Ann Pierpoint, the eldest daughter of Wm. and Matilda Pierpoint, was born near Pennsville, Ohio, October 28, 1827, where she grew to womanhood and was married to John Calvert June 3, 1849. To this union ten children were born, seven of whom are living, namely A. B. Calvert of Springville, Wm P. Calvert of Whittier, Mrs. L. M. Yocom of Springville, Chas. F. Calvert near Whittier, Mrs. A. A. Romans of Springville, Geo M. Calvert of Viola and Walter O. Calvert of Williston, North Dakota. In 1865 Mrs. Calvert came to Iowa with her husband in a covered wagon locating one mile north of Whittier, near where they resided for a number of years. 35 years ago they moved to Springville, locating on the south side, where Mr. Calvert died in 1907, since which time Mrs. Calvert has made her home with her eldest daughter, Mrs. Ed Yocom. Mrs. Calvert was brought up in the Friends church from which she was dis-owned after her marriage. She was converted 47 years ago at a meeting held in Lambert's school house, now known as North Star, and joined the Methodist church on probation. She was faithful to the church, living a consistant Christian life, was in attendance upon church services as long as she was able. Mrs. Calvert's last illness was of long duration, she having lost her sight, for the last five years being almost totally blind. Death came to her relief May 2, 1919 at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 4 days. Mrs. Calvert was a great sufferer during her last illness, but she was a most patient sufferer. She was a devoted wife and loving mother, having a kindly, considerate disposition. In her passing we have lost a pioneer of the community, for she was the oldest resident of the city at the time of her death. She leaves to mourn their loss one sister, Mrs. Lydia Patten of Whittier, seven children, twenty-three grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services, conducted by Bert S. Bailey, were held at the Methodist church, Sunday, May 4th at 2:30 p.m. The music was furnished by Mrs. Graham, Mrs. Cutler, Miss Hunte, Fred Taylor and Guy Reed. Interment was made in the Springville cemetery.
