NOTE: Her signature shows middle name as ANN, instead of ANNE. =========================== The Columbian Vancouver, Washington Tuesday, 8 January 2013 MARY ANNE (ROBERTS) STRATTON 3 October 1930 ~ 2 January 2013 A tender heart who touched thousands, Mary Anne (Roberts) Stratton, 82, of Vancouver, WA, passed away Wednesday surrounded by family. Mary Anne was born Oct. 3, 1930, in Deadwood, SD, to Aline Alexina (Larive) Roberts and Archie Nicolo Roberts. She was the eldest of four children, including Loretta Jean (Roberts) Ramey, Thomas Bernard Roberts and Veronica Mae (Roberts) Dhanens. At the age of 12, she and her family moved to Vancouver, where she would remain until her death. She graduated from Ogden Meadows High School in 1948. Mary Anne married Warren Harding Stratton on Oct. 8, 1955, at St. James Catholic Church. Married until Warren's death on May 14, 1996, they had four children, including Stephen Gerard Stratton, Michael Earl Stratton, Suzanne Renee (Stratton) Griswold and Joan Marie (Stratton) Smith. Mary Anne worked as a telephone operator for AT&T before spending the remainder of her life as a homemaker heavily involved in her community. While raising her four children, Mary Anne also earned a two-year degree from Clark Community College with a focus on English. A lifelong Catholic for whom faith came before all else, she was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish for more than 50 years. A model of compassion, concern and forgiveness, Mary Anne prayed for thousands over her life. Her love, influence and guidance extended to her grandchildren, whom she was exceptionally close to. With her prodigious green thumb, she kept the same half-acre garden going for nearly 40 consecutive years and donated much of her harvests to the community. She was also a consummate performing artist and lover of music and would go on to sing in the Vancouver Choraliers and then the Brahms Singers/Vancouver U.S.A. Singers for 49 years. She also had a passion for travel, touring Europe and Australia and keeping a worldwide network of friends. Mary Anne is survived by her four children; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her close friend, Ralph Marquez. Preceding her in death was her husband; sister, Loretta; and brother, Thomas. Her funeral will take place 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 12 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
