June 17, 1909 A REMARKABLE LIFE Mrs Ann Clark Of Lawrence Station Had Lived under Five English Sovereigns A remarkable life was closed at Lawrence Station on Tuesday June 8th, when Mrs. Ann Clark "fell on sleep". Remarkable becasue it had its beginnings so long ago as October 5th, 1801. At that time and for nearly twenty years after, George III sat upon the throne of England. George IV and William IV had their reigns, and Mrs. Clark was a b ride of a few years when Victoria ascended the throne. She who has just passed away saw the whole of that reign and also saw her son upon the throne for more than eight years. Ann Rollitt was born at Worksop, Nottingham, England of parents who lived to be upwards of eighty and having an unce who lived to be one hundred and three. When thirty years of age she married Thomas Clark, and nearl half a century of life passed over her head, when, sixty years ago they crossed the Atlantic and ventured forth into a new world. They landed at St. John, thence proceeding to St. Andrews and from there to Lawrence Station where they purchased a farm and where the remainder of her life was spent; excepting when visitng the children who had gown up abouit her and had scattered into hom,es of their own. Mr Clark died about twelve years ago, being then well into ninety years of age. Excepting that in her later years, rheumatism had found a lodgement in the sturdy frame, her life had been singularly free from illness; the attending physician in her last ilness something that even then her heart and lungs were as strong as those of a young person. Her life had been an arduous one, but she had the joy of seeing those grow up around her who now call her memory, blessed, the tribute of a grateful posterity to a devoted parent. Her "children" are, Thomas Clark, a veteran of the American Civil War, Mrs. Eliza Cook and Mrs. Susan Lindsay all of St. Stephen. Mrs. John Breen of Calais, Mrs. Charles Cumberland of Lubec and Mrs. Amelia Phillips with whom she made her home in late years at Lawrence Station. The impress of a pious parentage is evdent in all their homes. One sister, Mrs. Hannah Carelton resides in Washington. She was the youngest member of that old English family but over her head have passed nearly eighty cycles of time we call years. But the "messenger of death" came at last and all that was mortal of her who truly has been a devoted wife and mother had to eb laid at rest. Rev. J. A Whitfield; rector of Trinity Church, conducted the services at the house at Lawrence assisted by Mrs. R. B. Clark of Brockway. The services of the Church of England was used the ?????? in which she was an active member when many of those who have since given log years of service and have been "gathered to their fathers" were as yet neibors. The remains were brought to brought to St, Stephen and were interred beneath the majestic pines in our beautiful rural cemetery, some of which had their youth with her who now sleeps beneath their spreading branches. May she rest in peace.
