Description	:	Mary Ann Singles was born in Pennsylvania. She moved with her parents and siblings west. First to Muskingham County, then to Wisconsin. They lived in Grant County then settled at Clayton Township, Crawford County, WI. Mary had eight siblings, 4 sisters- Sarah, Nathina, Alsina and Rachel; and 4 brothers-John, William, James Jr and Anderson. John and William both died during the Civil War. Mary married Charles Henry Packard on March 4, 1854 in Hazel Green, Grant Co., Wis. They lived in Wisconsin until sometime during 1860 and then moved to Humboldt Co., Iowa. Mary married Charles Henry Packard on March 4, 1854 in Hazel Green, Grant Co., Wis. They lived in Wisconsin until sometime during 1860 and then moved to Humboldt Co., Iowa. They were living in Renwick in 1861. On August 14, 1862, Charles enlisted in the Union Army in A Co 32nd Iowa Infantry Regiment in Wright Co., IA, at the age of 29. He was mustered out at Clinton, IA August 24, 1865. After the war they lived in Boone, Iowa. Of this union there were 10 children - Sarah Diana, Martha "Ella", Seward, Mary Jane "Minnie", Anne, Charles, Silvester, Sylvenus, Clarence and Wilbur. She was survived by 9 children and 33 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Sarah Singles; one brother-in-law, Warren Schoville; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; a son, Silvester; her parents, James and Mary; and her brothers and sisters. Spirit Lake Beacon; April 03, 1919 Page 1 Mrs. E. Taylor's Mother Dead Mrs. Charles Packard, mother of Mrs. E. Taylor, of this place, passed away at her home at Renwick, Iowa, Sunday morning at 9:30. She was 84 years of age. She suffered a stroke of paralysis four years ago which has held her bedfast practically all - the time since. Mrs. E. Taylor and Mrs. Harry Taylor of Wilmot, left for Renwick Sunday and Mrs. Lulu Duckett on Monday. Mrs. Packard was one of the early settlers of that community, having homesteader there. Her husband passed away in 1901. She was the mother of ten children one dying in infancy. She also leaves thirty three grandchildren and thirty great grand children. The funeral services were held on Tuesday. Mrs. Duckett and Mrs. Harry Taylor returned on Wednesday while Mrs. E. Taylor will remain for a couple of weeks.
