Description	:	In 1992 a researcher had been hired to search Bluff City Cemetery in Elgin, Illinois for any Stringers and the researcher had indicated that Mary Ann was buried with her husband John A. Stringer in that cemetery. A notation was made that her remains had been cremated. However, a recent 2010 search of Buff City Cemetery revealed that only John A. Stringer was buried in Section 8 Lot 114 but no marker had been installed. Therefore the photo showing at the top is of an empty lot in that cemetery for his burial. The photo below... Read More	In 1992 a researcher had been hired to search Bluff City Cemetery in Elgin, Illinois for any Stringers and the researcher had indicated that Mary Ann was buried with her husband John A. Stringer in that cemetery. A notation was made that her remains had been cremated. However, a recent 2010 search of Buff City Cemetery revealed that only John A. Stringer was buried in Section 8 Lot 114 but no marker had been installed. Therefore the photo showing at the top is of an empty lot in that cemetery for his burial. The photo below that is the marker in Fair Oaks Cemetery. A visit to the Fair Oaks Cemetery in Fair Oaks, California in July 2010 reveals that she was not cremated but had apparently been buried on the family home property before being re-interned in Fair Oaks Cemetery after it was opened in 1903. All pioneer familes to Fair Oaks were offered and received plot spaces in Fair Oaks Cemetery for free if they would move any bodies buried on family land to the cemetery. Mary is buried with her daughter Edith F. (Stringer) Bishop and other Bishop family members in a family plot that was, according to the cemetery records, owned by a P. A. Bishop; however, it is believed that the handwriting was misinterpreted and the initials recorded should have been P. N. Bishop, which would have been Edith's husband, Percy N. Bishop. There is no record of a P. A. Bishop coming to Fair Oaks in 1895. In addition, a check at the Sacramento County office which maintains the vital records has no death record available for Mary Ann Stringer. The Fair Oaks Historical Society has some photos of early Fair Oaks Pioneers who came on what was called Excursion Trains from the Chicago area in 1895 to see land being offered for sale based on an advertisement of a publishing company which had bought land in California and was offering it for sale to all those who wanted to start fruit farms. Percy, Edith and his 2 children had their photo taken and another record had indicated a P. W. Bishop, dairyman, from Illinois was one of those early farmers. It is believed that P. W. should be P. N., because again, there is no family member who has a middle initial W. ********************************************************** OBITUARY Fair Oaks, CA DEATH OF OLD SETTLER Mrs. Ann Stringer passed at Fair Oaks, Cal. She came to Elgin (Illinois) Many Years Ago and Moved to California in 1897 -- Other Deaths Word was received Monday morning of the death of Mrs. Ann Stringer at Fair Oaks, Cal., at the home of her daughter Mrs. Percy Bishop, Tuesday, March 18, 1902. Mrs. Stringer was one of the oldest settlers of Elgin, coming here in the days of its early youth. About five years ago she removed to California, where she has since resided. Deceased was born in Yorkshire, England, June 7th, 1816, coming to this country at an early age. Four children, Judge T., Justice J., Mrs. Emma Bishop, and Mrs. Percy Bishop and a brother James Sterricker, mourn her death. From the Elgin Advocate 29 Mar 1902 pg. 3, col. 7.
