She was born March 30, 1923, to the late Capt. John H. and Annie M. Forrest. Read More	MATHEWS - Mary Anna Forrest Cannon, 86, a lifelong resident of Mathews, passed away at Riverside Convalescent Center, Mathews, on Aug. 2, 2009. She was born March 30, 1923, to the late Capt. John H. and Annie M. Forrest. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Weldon Cannon Sr. She is survived by her sons, Weldon Cannon Jr., of Florida and John Larry Cannon and his wife, Eunice, of Richmond; and granddaughters, Michelle Cannon of Florida and her sister, Kelly Fitzgerald, of Newport News and Sarah Cannon Watson and her husband, Jonathan, of Fredericksburg, and their soon to be born "Baby Boy." She graduated from Mathews High School, the class of 1940, and was president of her class. She was first employed by Hudgins Drug Store. After her children were grown, she attended Riverside Hospital School of Nursing and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked many years as an LPN, and she loved her work and patients. Mary Anna was a member of Central United Methodist Church, a member of the Friendship Class and the UMW there. In her retirement years, she volunteered with the Red Cross Bloodmobile, and she and her husband delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a 50 year member of Oriental Chapter No. 30, OES, the Mathews County Woman's Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 83. A memorial service, officiated by the Rev. Suzanne Gibson, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, at Central United Methodist Church, Mathews. Burial will follow at Milford Haven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Mathews Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 723, Mathews, VA, 23109.
