Gross was born October 14, 1866, in Plank township. She died at her home in East Lancaster township, January 14, 1923, aged 56 years, 3 months. She was first married to Jacob Fuhs; to them were born two sons and two daughters: Frank P., Lawrence W., Poplar, Mont.; Margaret E. Ramey, Sigourney; Emma M. Fairchild, Sigourney. The husband died in 1890. Later she was married to Nicholas Stein. Two sons were born to them: John H., Sigourney, and Henry J., Richland. December 30, 1902, she was united in marriage to Taylor Vanness of near Manhattan. To this union was born one daughter, Verna. Besides her loving husband, she leaves to mourn her loss, two sisters and three brothers, Dena Rudolph, Pocahontas, Ia.; Lena Peiffer, Harper; Joe Gross, Royal, Ia.; Henry Gross, Harper, and Nick Gross, Sigourney. Also eight grandchildren. The departed has been an invalid for many years, being confined to her bed the last three years. Her husband was her constant and faithful attendant. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. N. Butler of Richland, at the home, Tuesday, January 16, 1923.
