Mary and Herman are the parents of four children: Margaret Coba Ada Mildred ******** Sioux County Index; May 25, 1934 Mrs. Herman Ver Steeg Died Early Thursday Morning Mrs. Herman Ver Steeg, who we mentioned last week as being quite ill, passed away at her home early Thursday morning, May 17th. Her death came very unexpectedly, and was a severe shock to the family. Mrs. Herman Ver Steeg, nee Marie Antoinette Vander Gyp, was born in Middleburg, in the Province of Zeeland, Netherlands, in 1867. At the age of fifteen she moved with her parents, the Rev. and Mrs. K. Vander Gyp, to this country. They located at Alto, Wisconsin, where they resided until the death of Rev. Vander Gyp in 1884. The family then moved to Hospers, Iowa. On July 20, 1893 she was joined in marriage to Mr. Herman Ver Steeg at Orange City, Iowa. To this union four children were born, namely: Mrs. John Koele and Mrs. Gordon Mackie of Hull, Miss Ada Ver Steeg of Ames, Iowa, and Miss Mildred Ver Steeg, of Hull, who was her mother's constant companion. In 1899 Mr. and Mrs. Ver Steeg and their two daughters moved to Sioux Center, where they resided for four years, and at which place Misses Ada and Mildred were born. They then moved to Hull and resided here until eight years ago, when they moved to Sheldon, remaining there until the death of Mr. Ver Steeg in June, 1931. Mrs. Ver Steeg and Miss Mildred then returned to Hull, where they resided together until God suddenly called her to her eternal home, on the morning of May 17th. Funeral services were held last Saturday afternoon at the American Reformed Church. She was buried in Hope Cemetery beside the remains of her husband. Our community has lost a very kindly, friendly and amiable neighbor and friend, and we offer our sincere sympathies to the bereaved daughters and their families, and to the surviving sisters, namely Mrs. Rozeboom of Orange City and Mrs. Albert Poppen of Sioux Center.
