Description	:	Mary Ardene Meeker, 84, of Eldora died Sunday, August 4, 2002 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. Services will be held Thursday, August 8 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Huxley, with Rev. Ann Lipponcot of Eldora First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Story Memorial Gardens located at 3215 South Duff Avenue in Ames, Iowa. Mary Ardene was born November 19, 1917, near Union, Iowa, the daughter of Ross and Susie (Glenn) Hockett. Suzie died shortly after Mary’s birth and Ross’s second wife, Hester (Smitherman) Hockett became the only mother Mary ever knew. Educated in the area of her birth, she later attended Ellsworth Junior College. She taught country school prior to her marriage to Willard Meeker on January 21, 1941 at the Chester Friends Church in Union. They farmed in the Union area for twenty years prior to moving to Huxley. She was a teller at the Story County Bank and after thirty-four years they relocated to Eldora. She is survived by her husband Willard Meeker, daughters: Susie Reece, Eldora; Lyla (Mrs. Nick) Bechard, Lake Havasu City, Arizona; and Jean (Mrs. Steve) Hempel, Omaha, Nebraska, son-in-law Mike (Cindy) Bear, Newton; sister-in-law Romaine Hockett, Union; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Paul, two children: an infant daughter Joan, and daughter Dorothy Bear; granddaughter Angela Bear, and a son-in-law Earl Reece.
