Mary B. Smith HEATH -- Mary B. (Ladd) Smith, 80, of 153 Sumner Stetson Road, died Friday (2-6-09) at home. She was born in Corrina, Maine, January 31, 1929, the daughter of Chester and Sybil (Aiken) Ladd. She was an independent home healthcare aide. Previous employment included the Franklin County Visiting Nurses Association. Mary was an active member of the Heath Agricultural Society. For several years she and her husband, Ernest (Pat) Smith ran the oxen and horse draws at the Heath Fair. They also participated in the draws with their own oxen. She was also a member and past secretary of the VFW Post 8503 Ladies Auxillary in Shelburne Falls. She married her husband on December 25, 1945. He predeceased her on May 8, 1988. Survivors include her daughter of Buckland, her son of Heath; 1 brother of Northfield; her sister-in-law of Colrain and several grandchildren, great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. Her daughter, May B. Churchill, predeceased on May 31, 2008. A graveside service will be held in the spring in North Heath Cemetery. It is suggested donations be made to Hospice of Franklin County, 329 Conway Street, Greenfield, MA 01301. Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home in Shelburne Falls/Greenfield is in charge of arrangements.
