Description	:	Bertha M. Means Lee, daughter of James Means and Caroline Bunting Means was born in Lonetree, Cass County, Nebraska March 22, 1880. She passed from this life December 31, 1965, at the age of 85 years, 9 months, and 2 days. While a very small child the family moved in Adams County, Iowa. She passed from this life December 31, 1965, at the age of 85 years, 9 months, and 2 days. While a very small child the family moved in Adams County, Iowa. She united in marriage to Benjamin Jacob Lee on December 26, 1900 at her home near Mt. Etna, Iowa. To this union were born six children, Spray (deceased December 25, 1962), Ferrol of Seymour, Iowa, Hazel Ruckman of Shannon City, Iowa, Mary Avis Stump, Los Cruces, New Mexico, Virgil of Corning, Iowa, and Twyla Roberts of Corning, Iowa. Bertha and her husband retired from their farm in Adams County, Iowa to Shannon City in 1945. Here she lived among her garden and flowers sharing with her friends. As her health failed, and she could no longer work out of doors, she spent many hours writing letters to her relatives and friends. She is survived by her five children, 3 daughters-in-law, Gladys, Evelyn, and Ruby Lee, 3 sons-in-law, Dick Ruckman, Ted Stump, and Eldon Roberts, 17 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Bess Cochran and husband Levi, of Van Wert, Iowa, many relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben, August 9, 1964, a granddaughter, Phyllis Lee, in 1951, and an infant granddaughter, Naomi Roberts in 1949. Bertha attended the Methodist Church in Shannon City as long as her health permitted. She was laid to rest by her husband in the Forest Hill Cemetery, north of Corning, on what would have been their 65th anniversary. Services were from the Roland Funeral Home in Corning. Pall bears were the grandchildren of this wonderful couple. Adams County Free Press, January 13, 1966, page 2
