In 1634 Richard Butler of Cambridge was made a freeman of the Mass. Bay Colony implying membership of Rev. Thomas Hooker's Cambridge church. In 1635 Hooker and a large number of his congregation left Cambridge to settle present-day Hartford, Conn. where prior to the first land division of record at Hartford (Feb. 1639), Richard Butler already held numerous parcels of land including a houselot granted by the town. He is also inscribed on the Hartford Founders Memorial at Hartford being those who settled Hartford prior to 1640. If dau. Mary was b. in 1639 she likely was b. at Hartford, Conn. not at Cambridge, Mass. as often written. She was still living on July 12, 1677 when she gave birth to son David, but when she d. is not of record. By early 1660, Mary m. as his 2nd wife, Ens. Samuel Wright of Wethersfield, Conn., s. of Wethersfield settlers Thomas Wright and Mary Cranbrook, bapt. Sept. 14, 1636 at Southweld, Essex, England. He d. testate at Wethersfield Feb 13, 1689/90.
