Born March 17, 1926, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Ida Williams Carter. Mrs. Byrd was educated in the Rowan County school system. Read More	SALISBURY - Mary Carter Byrd, 82, of Salisbury, passed away Friday, March 13, 2009, at Rowan Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family. Born March 17, 1926, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Ida Williams Carter. Mrs. Byrd was educated in the Rowan County school system. She was employed for 23 years as a rose grader for Hanford's Incorporated. Mrs. Byrd was a devoted mother and grandmother, and her family was her pride and joy. In her early years of motherhood, she enjoyed serving as a "grademother" and participating in school and church activities with her daughter and only child. She was a strong advocate of parental school involvement. She delighted in the lives of her grandchildren and great-granddaughter, with whom she shared a special bond. She enjoyed gardening and watching her plants grow and birds gather in her trees and bird baths. She was especially fond of her "grandpets" and enjoyed daily visits with "Miss Kitty" and watching her "grandgoats" play in their pasture. She was a supporter of the Humane Society of Rowan County. She was a member of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church and the Ruth Bible Class. Members of the class will be seated as a group at the service. Mrs. Byrd is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Junius Franklin Byrd, Jan. 9, 1975. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Byrd Hartness and husband Michael of Salisbury; grandson Michael Ashley Hartness and wife Lynn of Salisbury; granddaughter Amanda Byrd Hartness of Salisbury; great-granddaughter Madalyn Ashley Hartness; several nieces and nephews; and special friends who were "like family" to her. Visitation: Visitation will be held Sunday, March 15 from 6-8 p.m. at Summersett Funeral Home. Service: Funeral Service will be conducted Monday, March 16 at 11 a.m. at Stallings Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Charlie Bryan and Rev. Robert Heard officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Reform Church in Faith. Memorials: May be made to Stallings Memorial Baptist Church, 817 S. Main St., Salisbury, NC 28144; or Humane Society of Rowan County, P.O.
