Description	:	EVANS, Ga. - Mary Catherine Schmidt Tasker, 92, of Evans, Georgia, a native of Pleasant Valley, West Virginia, entered into rest on Friday, December 22, 2006, at Kentwood Nursing Facility in Augusta, Georgia. Mrs. Tasker was born in Swanton, Maryland, on January 1, 1914. She is a daughter of the late Henry Augusta Schmidt and Sarah Elizabeth Uphole Schmidt. Mrs. Tasker is survived by her three grandchildren, Mike Hullum and his wife Billie, Mark Hullum and his wife Martha, and Julie Hullum, all of Grovetown, Georgia. Mrs. Tasker was born in Swanton, Maryland, on January 1, 1914. She is a daughter of the late Henry Augusta Schmidt and Sarah Elizabeth Uphole Schmidt. Mrs. Tasker is survived by her three grandchildren, Mike Hullum and his wife Billie, Mark Hullum and his wife Martha, and Julie Hullum, all of Grovetown, Georgia. She leaves behind five great-grandchildren, Mike Hullum, Mallorie Hullum, Kyndall Hullum, Payton Hullum, and Preston Hullum. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tasker was preceeded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Clarence Darrow Tasker, and her daugher, Ruby Kay Hullum. She was also preceeded in death by her siblings, Rachel Elizabeth Walter, William Henry Schmidt, Nellie Mae Harvey, Herman Otto Schmidt, Sarah Blanche Lohr. She also leaves behind a host of devoted nieces, cousins, and wonderful friends. Mrs. Tasker grew up in Deer Park, Maryland. She attended school there and later worked as a Red Cross Volunteer as a nursing assistant. She met Clarence and they married on April 12, 1936. Mary and Clarence moved to Fairmont, West Virginia and found their home in Pleasant Valley. Mary enjoyed being a friend, neighbor, and adopted grandmother to the neighbors on Lillie Street. She devoted her life to her Lord and to her family and friends and she lived by the Golden Rule. Mary was a long-standing and very active member of the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church in Pleasant Valley. After Clarence retired, he and Mary purchased a travel trailer and spent approximately the next ten winters in Florida. Her family fondly remembers Mary and Clarence visiting their only child, Ruby, and her family in every city in which the Army sent their son-in-law. They traveled to Germany for a visit and were able to visit Paris, France. They showed up unannounced on a snowy Christmas Eve in Colorado Springs. Mary had many happy years in Fairmont. In 1999, after Clarence passed away, Mary moved to Augusta, Georgia to be close to her only daughter and family. It did not take her new neighbors long to realize how special she was. The selfless love, kind and loving nature, and giving spirit will always be remembered by her family and friends. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 29 at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont, WV, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be at Valley Chapel United Methodist Church in Pleasant Valley in Fairmont, West Virginia, on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 11:00 a.m.. Internment will be at Deer Park Cemetery, Deer Park, Maryland, immediately following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church.
