DANIEL JOHNSON Mary Catherine Schrum, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Schrum, was born March 7, 1846, in Greene county, Indiana and departed this life Oct. 20, 1918, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mart Gookin, near Russell, aged 72 years, 8 months and 20 days. She came with her parents to Illinois, and on March 8, 1866, was united in marriage to Mr. Daniel Johnson. To this union were born ten children, all of whom are living, five sons and five daughters. They are Louis N., of Melcher; Wm. E., Jessie R., James F., all of Russell; Bert A., of Wisconsin; Mrs. Alice Whittlesey, of Chariton; Mrs. Nettie McKinley, of Leon; Mrs. Adda Wright, of Chariton; Mrs. Mary Gookin and Mrs. Olive Kimler, of Russell. Mr. Johnson preceded her in death about four years ago. They settled in Lucas county in 1867, where they both resided until death. In 1867, Mrs. Johnson was converted in a meeting at Mr. Thomas Hollingshead's home, about a mile and a quarter from where the Bethel church now stand, and united with the class. She remained a member of the church until her Lord called her to the church triumphant. She leaves to mourn her departure five sons, five daughters, thirty-seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and a large number of other relatives and friends. Sister Johnson was a kind and affectionate mother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Funeral services were held in the Bethel church Tuesday at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Geo. J. Cornford, of Albia, assisted by Rev. Mitchell, pastor of the Bethel church. Obituary courtesy of Charles M. Wright
