Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Retz Funeral Home, Sheffield. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 1, at Zion Reformed Church, rural Sheffield, with Rev. Mary Constance Anderson was born May 4, 1927, in South Amboy, New Jersey, a daughter of Leonard Orval and Mary Veronica (O'Leary) Anderson. At a young age her family moved to Thornton, Iowa. She was raised in the Catholic Church and graduated from Thornton High School. On May 16, 1944, Mary Lou was united in marriage with Theodore 'Ted' Pals. They joined the First Reformed Church in Meservey and later the Zion Reformed Church in rural Sheffield and were very active in church activities. This union was blessed with four children. Together Ted and Mary Lou farmed in Meservey, Rockwell, and Sheffield. Mary Lou was an active participant in the farming activities. There are fond memories of her driving the John Deere two-row corn picker. She was also employed as a waitress in a cafe in downtown Sheffield and as a seasonal worker for nine years with Sukup Manufacturing. Later Mary Lou married Richard Schmidt and lived in Latimer. After his death Mary Lou married Glenn Siefkes and they made their home in Kimberling City, Missouri, and also spent winters in Apache Junction, Arizona. Mary Lou loved to play cards, dance, read, sing, listen to music, and visit with friends and family. She enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids participate in their sporting and musical activities. Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Glenn Siefkes, Kimberling City, MO; children: Barbara Brown, Las Vegas, NV; Jerry (Sue) Pals, Crystal, MN; Mick (Terri) Pals, Sheffield; grandchildren: Tim (P.A.) Pals, Jeff (Melissa) Clayton, Josh (Amy) Pals, Jonell Wilson, Chase (Katie) Pals, Jordan Pals, Logan Pals; great-grandchildren: William, Ella, Teddy, Garrett, Trevor, Ryder; sister: Darlene Popp, Grimes, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, son Alan, brother Richard, and sister Margaret.
