They were the parents of Albert, Mrs. Garrett Lammers, Aloysis, and George, Arthur, Frank, Rose, Joseph, & Florence October 14, 1920 - Mrs. Joseph Schachtner, sr., was killed, almost instantly, Sunday afternoon, and her mother, Mrs. Mary Daniels, was seriously injured, when the car in which they were riding, skidded from the road, and went into a ditch, about a half mile north of the St. Lawrence church. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Schachtner, sr., Mrs. Mary Daniels, and Joseph, jr., and Frank Schachtner were the occupants of the car, and Joseph jr., was at the wheel. They were driving north at the rate of about 20 miles an hour, and when reaching the foot of the hill, (just north of the Bruch farm) the front wheels skidded when they struck sand, turned to one side and the car went into the ditch. All of the occupants were thrown but of the car, Mrs. Schachtner struck either a rock or a post, her neck was broken, and she lived but about ten minutes following the accident. Mr. Daniels is suffering with a broken arm and internal injuries and is in a serious condition. Mary Daniels Schachtner - Mary Daniels was born in Dodge county, Wisconsin, on October 14, 1863, and died in Carroll on October 10, 1920. February 7, 1888, she was married to Joseph Schachtner and shortly after their marriage they moved to Kniest township, Carroll county, where they continued to reside until last March, when the moved to this city. Besides the husband, there are nine children, as well as one adopted son, John Allen, who survive. The children are Albert of Wisconsin; Mrs. Garrett Lammers, Carroll; Aloysis, Auburn, and George, Arthur, Frank, Rose, Joseph, & Florence at home. Three brothers, John & George Daniel of Montana; & Frank Daniels of Washington were here to attend the funeral. The funeral was held from St. Peter and St. Paul's church this morning at 9 o'clock with Requiem High Mass, and the body laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery.
