Description	:	Mary was born on August 14, 1930, at the rural farm home of her parents, George and Philomena (Venteicher) Shreck. She was the tenth of thirteen children. Mary graduated from Saint Anthony School of Nursing. She was a nurse when her future mother-in-law, Mary Reis (Dahm) introduced her to her future husband, Joseph Alfred Reis, while she was hospitalized. Read More	Mary was born on August 14, 1930, at the rural farm home of her parents, George and Philomena (Venteicher) Shreck. She was the tenth of thirteen children. Mary graduated from Saint Anthony School of Nursing. She was a nurse when her future mother-in-law, Mary Reis (Dahm) introduced her to her future husband, Joseph Alfred Reis, while she was hospitalized. Mary and Joe married in Wiley, Iowa on September 7, 1952. After Joe retired from the Army/Air Force in 1964., they moved to Omaha where they could both be close to their Iowa families. Mary retired after working for 28 years as an RN at Douglas County Hospital. She was one of the first Utilization Review nurses in Omaha. After her retirement, she and a group of fellow County retirees started a monthly lunch group that continued until October of 2021. Mary was an independent-minded, caring, loving, and generous wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a playful "sit-on-the-floor-to-play" great-grandmother well into her 91st year. She loved kneeling at the bathtub helping to bathe her grandchildren into her 90s as well. She did her best to stay fit so she could do what she enjoyed. Mary enjoyed gardening, playing cards, reading, making quilts, visits and phone calls with family and friends, trips to her son's cabin, her Sunday Church coffee-after-Mass group, monthly Condo meetings, and monthly County retiree lunch group. She had a deep sense of caring and concern for others. Mary was an active member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church and Altar Society. She was Catholic Woman of the Year from her parish in 2011.
