They were the parents of John, Robert, and Edwin. July 13 1936 - Carroll Daily Herald - Mrs. John J. Gnam, well known Carroll woman and resident here for the past 32 years, died at 2:40 o'clock this morning at her home in the Selzer apartments. Mrs. Gnam had been ill with heart trouble for several months and the past several weeks her condition had become critical. Little hope was held for her recovery. Mrs. Gnam was the former Mary Doreen Behan, daughter of the late Mary and Patrick Behan of Clinton. She was born, reared and educated in Clinton. She became the bride of John J. Gnam of Carroll at the St. Patrick's church in Clinton by the Rev. J.A. Murray and after the ceremony the couple came to Carroll to make their home. The Gnams were the parents of three children, John E., Robert D. and Edwin C. Gnam, all at home. Mrs. Gnam was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Catherine and a brother, William. Survivers include her widower, three sons, two sisters, Misses Nell and Nan Behan of Clinton and a brother, John Behan of Des Moines. Her sisters and brother had been here during Mrs. Gnam's illness. The body was taken to the Kircher-Dietrich Funeral home where it will remain until time of services which will be held at 9 a.m., Wednesday, at the St. Lawrence church. Mrs. Gnam had been active in various activities of the town. She was a former member of the Newman Study club and Catholic Daughters of America. She belonged to the St. Lawrence church and to various church organizations. Her husband for several years was employed in the Gnam Hardware store.
