Blair, daughter of James and Helen (Davis) Blair, was born November 19, 1920, at the River Ranch, South of Nenzel in Cherry County, Nebraska. She moved with her family to the Meadow Grove Area in the spring of 1921. She lived in that area most of her life, except for Douglas Aircraft Company of Santa Monica, California. She attended Madison County #21, and graduated from Meadow Grove High School in 1937. She started her teaching career that fall in Holt County. She taught at several rural one room district schools in Madison County. Not only was she a teacher in the classrooms but where ever she was. Mary was a daughter and cared for her parents in their Golden Years. She was a sister to her brothers and sister, Doyle, Pat, and Dorthy. She was an aunt to her nieces and nephews, also to many neighborhood kids too. Mary was a friend and neighbor, the old fashioned way. Her philosophy was, “Take time to smell the roses. You may not get a second chance. Help others whenever possible, accepting no reward except 'Thanks'. Just help them to pass the help on.” Mary loved the outdoors, hunting, but didn't like to fish. She heard the eagle scream as he hunted down the Elkhorn River. She enticed the deer to her front house steps just to see if she could and they did. Her interests and hobbies were reading, genealogy, music, sports, bowling, and traveling. At the age of 80, she went to North Alaska, reminiscing afterwards. She always said, “If I was 30-40 years younger, I would of stayed.” She moved into the Westwood Apartment Complex in April 1993. Mary joined and was active in the Elkhorn Valley Senior Citizens. She made memories for herself and with others. Those celebrating her life are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews. She wishes for them, “Not to mourn or cry for me. I just went home.”
