Family will receive friends on Friday, June 26, 2020 at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary service at 6:00 p.m. Mary was born May 17, 1930, to James Pearl and Iantha Brasher Bucklew in Dallas, Iowa. She grew up in Dallas and graduated from Dallas High School in 1948. Mary was united in marriage to Paul Sommar on June 15, 1949. They were blessed with three children: Kathy, Carol, and Joey. Mary was foremost a wife and mother as well as an excellent seamstress. She worked along side Paul on the farm as well as when they managed the Phillips 66 Station. She was very active in the Sacred Heart Church and was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever she could. She also worked at several local businesses which she enjoyed immensely. However, her first love was her family whom will greatly miss her. Mary passed away June 21, 2020 at the age of 90. She is survived by daughters: Kathy Gass and Carol Shives; grandchildren: Paul (Jamie) Gass, Mark (Michelle) Gass, Jennifer (Darrell) Van Gorp, and Brian (Patricia) Shives; great grandchildren: Kayla, Morgan, Caiden, Treylee, Emma, Isabella, Kyra, Emily, Kyle, Lukas, Owen, Drew (Danielle), Tyler (Jackie), Dillon, and Dakota; great grandchildren: Addison, Breonna, and Reagen; sister, Helen Bucklew; along with many relatives and friends. Preceding Mary in death were her husband, Paul; son, Joey; parents: James Pearl and Iantha Bucklew; a brother, Robert Bucklew; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
