Description	:	Edith Matheson Newman Mary Edith Matheson was the youngest child of Alexander and Jane Stevenson Matheson. She was born September 4, 1879, on a farm east of Mt. Sterling, and passed away in Ottumwa, Iowa, Friday morning at the age of 66 years 1 month 15 days. When just a child the family moved to a farm near Keosauqua and lived there until 1915, when they moved into Keosauqua. Read More	Edith Matheson Newman Mary Edith Matheson was the youngest child of Alexander and Jane Stevenson Matheson. She was born September 4, 1879, on a farm east of Mt. Sterling, and passed away in Ottumwa, Iowa, Friday morning at the age of 66 years 1 month 15 days. When just a child the family moved to a farm near Keosauqua and lived there until 1915, when they moved into Keosauqua. Mary Edith cared for her father and mother during their illness and death, her father dying in 1921 and mother in 1923. On May 10, 1930, she was united in marriage to George W. Newman of Ottumwa, where she has since made her home. Her husband died in January of this year. In 1916 Mrs. Newman became a member of the Keosauqua Christian church and has retained her membership throughout the years. She was also a member of the Keosauqua Rebekah lodge. Mrs. Newman was a kindly soul, always helpful and doing the many little kindnesses that smooth the way for friends and loved ones. She especially loved her flowers and her pets. For the past two years she has been in very poor health, and death came as a kindly friend, releasing the imprisoned spirit, freeing it from pain and suffering and confusion. Her parents, brothers John and George and her husband preceded her in death. Surviving are one brother, Grant of Farmington, a sister Mrs. Sarah C. Wolf of Keosauqua; two sisters in law, two nephews, five nieces and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Burnett funeral home in Keosauqua by Rev. Edna M. Fellows assisted by Rev. Treverton Warren. Interment was in the Fellows cemetery near Keosauqua. - - - - - - -
