She battled pancreatic cancer with courage and dignity the last few months of her life. Babe was born in Pendleton, Oregon on April 17, 1923 to Alice M. (Kelly) and Homer C. Taylor. Her parents and brother, William H. Taylor, were admired and respected educators. Her father and brother achieved notable success as athletes and coaches. Her father started the baseball program at Irene S. Reed High School. On road trips she enjoyed singing four-part harmony with her family. Babe started school in Aberdeen, WA., and moved to Shelton in 1932. She graduated from Irene S. Reed High School in 1940 and attended the University of Washington for three years. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. On January 6, 1945 Babe married Mark Fredson in St. Edward's Catholic Church in Shelton where they were lifelong members. Following Mark's distinguished service in the U.S. Army Air Corps they settled in Shelton permanently. Babe worked for a local drugstore, Rayonier Laboratory, and the University of Washington Bookstore early in her career. She was the Office Manager for Dr. B. N. Collier in later years. Family activities and events captured Babe's time and support throughout her lifetime. She made holidays and special occasions exceptional. She was an amazing cook and baker. Her attention to detail was evident in cooking, knitting, writing, and many other aspects of her life. Babe's hand-knit, personalized Christmas stockings are precious works of art. She subscribed to the philosophy that a job worth doing was worth doing well. She provided unconditional love for her extended family and always encouraged loved ones to pursue dreams and be the best they could be. Babe enjoyed tennis, swimming, and golf. She was an enthusiastic sports fan. A loyal fan of the Seattle Mariners, Babe remained positive to the last out of any game. Babe was a member of St. Mary's Altar Society at St. Edward's Catholic Church, the Bayshore Golf Club (Mark was a charter member), the Mason General Hospital Auxiliary, the local election board, and friendly bridge games. She treasured many wonderful friendships during her life. Her irrepressible sense of humor was evident even as she struggled with health challenges. Her family, friends, and pets were blessed to have had her in their lives. Her devotion and care for loved ones throughout her life is an inspirational legacy. Babe's husband, Mark, preceded her in death in 1997. Her brother, William H. Taylor; granddaughter, Erin E. Olson; and great-granddaughter, Audrey E. Olson, also predeceased Babe. A funeral mass was celebrated on Friday, August 5, 2011 at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Shelton. lnurnment was at Shelton Memorial Park. Arrangements were by McComb Funeral Home in Shelton.
