Post Card Shower. Mrs. John C. Wood, wast of town, will always have pleasant memories of her birthday, Monday, July 17, 1911. Her neighbors and friends remembered her with a handsome post card shower on that day. She received 182 cards of beautiful designs as tokens of love and friendship. Mrs. Wood has been confined to her bed almost constantly for the past three months. She submitted to an operation in St. Louis December 16 last and hoped for complete recovery, but somehow her recovery has been very slow and at times she suffers a great deal. This remembrance by her neighbors and friends was of great cheer to her in her affliction. How much happier this world would be if men and women everywhere wold lay aside business cares long enough to remember those who are sick and afflicted. We do not realize what cheer it brings to the heart and then it results in great benefit to the one who does the kindness, for no man ever did a kind act that it did not bring a keen joy to his heart. —Shelby County Herald, Shelbyville, Shelby, Missouri, Wednesday, August 30, 1911, page 4. ---Mrs. Mary Elizabeth, wife of John C. Wood, died at her home near this city on Thursday, Aug. 24, 1911, aged 54 years, 1 month and 7 days. ---She was married to Mr. Wood Oct. 10, 1877. To this union were born six children, four girls and two boys, one of the daughters dying in infancy. Mrs. Wood was converted and united with Mt. Zion church in 1874. At the time of her death she was a member of the Black Creek Baptist church, having transferred her membership to that church at the time her husband was converted five years ago. ---Mrs. Wood was a true christian woman and lived an exemplary life. She is survived by her husband, five children--Mrs. Myrtle L. Cheetwood(sic), Mrs. Didema A. Eaton, M. Monroe, Charles Highter and Miss Goldie B.,--one brother, J. W. Bell of Fort Wayne, Ind., one sister, Mrs. Annie Lear and one grandson. ---Funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. W. Humphrey at the Baptist church n this city Friday morning in the presence of a large company of sorrowing relatives and friends. Interment in the I. O. O. F. cemetery in this city.
