Read More	FINAL RITES HELD FOR MRS, CUNNINOHAM, PIONEER RESIDENT Had Lived in Mills County More Than 80 years Mrs. Mary E. Cunningham, who lived north of Tabor, was a pioneer in that community. She came to the Tabor community with her folks in 1883, 80 years ago during the Civil war. She was but a girl of 10 when her people came across the state of Iowa from Illinois in covered wagons. She was here when the railroads laid their first lines of steel upon our native sod. She was here when the old Tabor college chapel was the outstanding institution of education and the only place for religious worship. She was here when the village of Tabor was governed by that ancient method of democracy, "The Town Meeting." Mary E. Dobney, the daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Bell Dobney, was born in London, England, Aug. 26, 1863. last August she became a nonagenarian. She was but a child of two when the family came to America, crossing the Atlantic ocean in a sailing vessel that required seven weeks for crossing. She was born a subject of Queen Victoria. Their first home was in Ohio, then they moved farther west to Adams County, Illinois. A brother Frank was born overseas. A brother John died in infancy. Her brother George Dobney, passes away June 1, 1943. But one of the original family, a sister, Mrs. Sarah Madison, of Woodbine, remains. Mrs. Cunningham was united with the Congregational church in Tabor, March 15, 1874, almost 70 years ago. She was baptized at the same service. Among the present members of the church she was the oldest person and also the oldest resident member in the number of years she had belonged. She and Peter Cunningham were united in marriage February 24, 1876. He husband, a native of Ireland, came to America when he was 17. Three children were born to them, Amy, now Mrs. Walter W. Glynn, Tabor, Martin Cunningham, Malvern, and Fred Cunningham, Council Bluffs. Four grandchildren and , five great-grandchildren will ever cherish the memory pf a pioneer grandmother whose, personal interest in them was so deep and so concerned. She not only was a mother to her own children but also was a mother to the two daughters of her son. Fred, For the past few years she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Walter Glynn. Mrs. Cunningham died at the home of her daughter Jan. 7. She was stricken some weeks ago and never rallied, Funeral services were held Sunday in the Reeves Funeral Home in Tabor, conducted by the Rev. Peter Jacobs of the Congregational church, Mrs. Lisle Westherhead, with Miss Blanch Dalton as accompanist, sang two numbers, "In The Harden" and "I Have Done My Work," Those to charge or the many floral tributes were Mrs, Ruth Wilson, Mrs, Lucy Wilson, Mrs, Pearl Kline, Mrs: Florence Adamson, Miss. Abbie Tarpenning, Miss Mabel McCormick, The pall bearers were Alfred Christopher, Charles Wilson, Charlie Wilson, V. H. Patrick, Reid Henderson, Henry Aistrope. Interment was in the Malvern Cemetery. He body was placed beside that of her husband, who died January 5, 1933.
