Batdorf, whose home is in the hills near Glendale ranch, four miles East of St. Helena, died at the Sanitarium Tuesday morning at 4:30 o'clock. Deceased, whose maiden name was Mary E. Gaumer, was the daughter of Charles and Mahalla Gaumer. She was born in Carroll county, Indiana, July 6, 1852. In 1867 she accompanied her parents to Kansas and on, March 20, 1873, in the city of Lawrence, that State, was happily, married to J.S. Batdorf. Sixteen years ago Mr. Batdorf and family came to California, settling in Hollister. Besides her husband, deceased is survived by three daughters and two sons: Mrs. Jennie M. Lewis, of Kerman, Fresno county Cal.; Mrs. Emma C. Platt, of Forest, Idaho; Charles W. Batdorf, who has charge of large Mission schools in China; Samuel F. Batdorf, principal of the high school at Anderson, Cal., and Mrs. Bertha B. Lee, of Berkeley. There are also three brothers—G.F. Gaumer, of Isamal, Mexico; Thomas C. Gaumer, of Sacramento; and Charles S. Gaumer, of Lawrence, Kansas. All the children except the son in China, were present at the funeral, as was deceased's brother, Mr. Thomas Gaumer.
