Elias Handy, pastor of the church, and interment was in the Carroll cemetery. The pall bearers were Abe Merrill, Frank Belter, L.L. Shoemaker, J.J. Grave, William Pierce, and Taylor Guy. Mrs. Willey, who had been a resident of Carroll county since 1879, died at the New Carroll hospital March 13, after an illness of about two weeks. For a number of years she had suffered with asthma, and about two weeks prior to her death contracted lagrippe which developed into pneumonia. All that loving hands and medical skill could do proved of no avail. Mrs. Willey was well known and highly regarded among a large circle of friends who sincerely mourn the loss of a kind neighbor and a splendid Christian woman whose many acts of kindness were performed in a quiet, unassuming manner. Mary Elizabeth Herges was born at Jamestown, Wis., July 2, 1857, and died at the age of 65 years, eight months, and 11 days. She was married to John H. Willey at Jamestown in 1879 and the same year they came to Carroll county and settled on a farm in Pleasant Valley township about six miles from Carroll where the greater part of her life was spent. About six years ago they moved to Carroll. Besides her husband, she is survived by a foster son, Jerry; and by a brother, Jacob Herges, of Denison; and the following more distant relatives: Mr. and Mrs. Morgan and son, of Denison; Dick Stevens and daughter, of Sac City; Mr. and Mrs. A.N. Willey and two sons, of Glidden; Mrs. Mary Jackley, of Oskaloosa, Ia.; Mrs. Mary Willey, of Mason City; Mrs. Elmer Martin, of Albert City; Mr. and Mrs. Jess Davis, of Glidden; Mrs. Ray Cundy, of Davenport, and Mrs. Al Stocker, of Waterloo.
