Description	:	Mary Elizabeth (Ingvoldstad) Walton, age 67, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2008, at the Richland Hospital after a determined five year battle with colon cancer. She was born in Waukegan, IL on May 27, 1941 to Carsten and Beth Ingvoldstad. When she was 12, the family moved to Decorah, IA. Read More	Mary Elizabeth (Ingvoldstad) Walton, age 67, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2008, at the Richland Hospital after a determined five year battle with colon cancer. She was born in Waukegan, IL on May 27, 1941 to Carsten and Beth Ingvoldstad. When she was 12, the family moved to Decorah, IA. In high school, Mary was involved in many extracurricular activities as well as being voted homecoming queen. During college, she used money she had saved from the age of 9 to travel to Paris where she studied at the Sorbonne for four months. She graduated with a teaching degree from Northern Iowa University in 1963. She moved to St. Louis, MO where she taught French at the elementary level, later on becoming the supervisor of the French department for the Mehlville School District. She married Gilbert Walton on June 21, 1964 at Decorah Lutheran Church. Her first son Jeffrey Walton was born on January 30, 1971 and Edward Walton on November 15, 1974. The family moved to Bloomfield Hills, Michigan in 1977 and then to Richland Center, Wisconsin in 1980. Mary worked with Gil at their office supply store until she returned to teaching in 1993. She taught one year of fifth grade at Ithaca Elementary before switching to first grade, which she enjoyed teaching from 1995 through 2008. She loved spending time with family and friends the most, but also playing the piano, tending to her many plants, sewing, traveling, and a mild addiction to spider solitaire. In addition to her husband and sons, she is also survived by her three loving brothers, Carsten, Patrick, and Roger and by hundreds of grateful students. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Ken Halstead officiating with burial to be held at a later date. Friends may call on Monday, September 8, 2008 from 4:00 until 7:00 at the Pratt Memorial Chapel and again on Tuesday, September 9 from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM. The family suggests that memorials in Mary’s name be given an Ithaca Scholarship Fund that has been established in Mary’s name. Checks maybe made payable to Ithaca School District-Walton Scholarship Fund. The Pratt Funeral Service is assisting the family with their arrangements.
