Description	:	Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Culver died Saturday, June 9th, at her home at Hay Springs, Nebraska, at the age of 83 years, 7 months and 2 days. Her death marked the passing of another of Boone county’s pioneers. Funeral rites were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Gates Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Joseph Stopford officiating. A quartette composed of Mrs. Eva Blatter, Mrs. Ruth Cramer, Raymond Hosford and Russell Hosford sang. Read More	Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Culver died Saturday, June 9th, at her home at Hay Springs, Nebraska, at the age of 83 years, 7 months and 2 days. Her death marked the passing of another of Boone county’s pioneers. Funeral rites were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Gates Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Joseph Stopford officiating. A quartette composed of Mrs. Eva Blatter, Mrs. Ruth Cramer, Raymond Hosford and Russell Hosford sang. The floral tributes were beautiful and interment was in Rose Hill cemetery beside her husband and son. Mary Elizabeth Jones was born at Geneva, Wisconsin November seventh, 1850. Soon after her parents moved to Delavan, Wisconsin where she received her education and began her work as a teacher in the Delavan high school. In 1867 the family moved to Dover, Wisconsin, where she taught for five years, then was married to DeLancy Culver on January 15th, 1873. To this union two children were born, Hugh L. who died in 1910, and Maude C. Letson of Hay Springs, Nebraska. In 1879, with her husband and small son she immigrated from Wisconsin to Boone County Nebraska where they suffered the hardships of pioneer life, but also knew the joys of sacrifice and the reward of honest labor. This was their home until 1902 when they moved to nearby Albion to enjoy the remainder of their life. This was not to be however, for during a severe illness in 1910 she lost her eyesight and they left the Albion home to live with her daughter at Gordon, Nebraska. Here in November 1917 her husband died. She moved with the Letson family to Long Beach, California and after a few years there came back to Nebraska with them to Hay Springs, which has since been her home. She was a life long member and faithful worker in the Congregational and Presbyterian churches. Her work in the Woman’s clubs of Albion, Gordon and Hay Springs was an outstanding interest in her life and an inspiration to those with whom she came in contact. Those who have been privileged to know her intimately have marveled at her patience, her keen mind, her active interest in all her friends, and also in the affairs of the world and nation. It is not given to us to judge why some people are called upon to suffer so much, but a life lived so patiently and sweetly, with such an abundance of faith in a Divine Providence should be an example to all. During her last sickness, confined to her bed for many long weeks, she never complained nor lost her faith that somewhere, sometime, God in His infinite mercy would reward. Left to mourn her passing are her daughter, Mrs. Maude C. Letson; a granddaughter, Mrs. Mildred Miller; two grandsons, John and Robert Culver; three great granddaughters, Joan Frances Culver and Jean and Joan Miller, besides other relatives and friends.
