GEORGE HOLSTE DIES EARLY TODAY AT MASSENA Massena, Ia., Aug. 2 - (Special) - Mrs. George Holste, 76, a resident of this vicinity since 1862, died at her home in Massena this morning at 5 o'clock. Mrs. Holste had been ill the last 15 months and in a critical condition since suffering a paralytic stroke Friday. Mrs. Holste, whose maiden name was Mary Madeline Elizabeth Schafer, was born in Cook county, Illinois, February 18, 1863, and grew to young womanhood there. Following their marriage January 8, 1882, Mr. and Mrs. Holste came to Iowa and located in Victoria township, where they resided until moving to Massena 25 years ago. Surviving are the husband, two sons, Louis and Edward Holste, Victoria township residents, and a daughter, Mrs. Elsie Boos, who lives in Massena township. There are also 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. one child died in infancy. Mrs. Holste was a member of the Victoria township Evangelical Lutheran church, where funeral services will be held Friday afternoon. Definite funeral arrangements had not been made today. Atlantic News Telegraph August 5, 1939 Page 8 HOLSTE RITES AT MASSENA FRIDAY Massena, Ia., Aug. 5 - (Special) - Funeral services for Mrs. George Holste were held Friday afternoon at the Evangelical church in Victoria township, with the Rev. Mr. Fuchs in charge, assisted by Rev. Hall. Mrs. Louise Platt, Miss Emma Wollenhaupt, E. E. Hastings, and Arthur Taylor, accompanied by Mrs. R. F. Peel sang "The Old Rugged Cross," "The Garden of Prayer," and "Going Down the Valley." in a short service at the home the quartet sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," and in the service at the graveside they sang "Rock of Ages." The pallbearers were George Holste, Jr., Erwin Holste, Lloyd Casteel, Wendell Blakely, Herman Reichardt, and Russell Symonds. Burial was in the Victoria township cemetery.
