Description	:	The funeral service for Mary Elizabeth Ward of Bertha will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2015, at the New Life Church of God in Bertha, with Pastors Jason Knoll and Mark Brown presiding. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. Mary was born to John and Jennie (Opsal) Whetham on September 24, 1930, in Box Elder, MT. After graduating from high school, Mary was united in marriage with Dwight Ward in October 16, 1948 at the United Methodist Church in Clarissa, MN. She became his helpmate and companion as they raised their family. Her days were filled with flower and vegetable gardening, canning, cooking, baking, bird-watching, playing games and working crossword puzzles. She was talented at welcoming her family and friends to get-togethers and making Christmas special for everyone. Mary served as a Sunday School teacher, on the church Benevolence Committee, and was a member of the Modern Pioneer Club, the Sr. Citizen Center, and an active member at New Life Church of God. Mary was preceded in death by her parents John and Jennie; brothers Maurice, John and Clarence Whetham; and sisters Grace Clawiter, Alberta Garnett, Florence Cross and Jeanette Cline. She is survived by her husband Dwight of Bertha; son Gene (Karie) Ward of Avon; daughter Connie (Gary) Dickinson of Clarissa; five grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; along with a host of friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Mary’s great-grandchildren and nieces & nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Ward, Shawn Ward, Justin Dickinson, Wade Dickinson, Kali Pachan and Nathan Pachan. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Bertha, MN. The family suggests memorials go to the New Life Church of God, Bertha, MN Obituary courtesy of Schuller Family Funeral Home - Wadena, MN.
