Tutin, who passed away Friday evening at the home of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Ada Lynk at Coon Rapids. Rev. R. Grigsby of the Rowan M.E. church had charge of the services and Mrs. A. O. Pelley and Mrs. A. C. Rietz furnished the music. Interment was in Mount Hope cemetery. Mary Ellen Baines Tutin, daughter of Edmund and Mary Baines, was born in Platteville, Wisconsin, October 23, 1855 and passed from this life at Coon Rapids March 10, 1939 at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 17 days. She was one of a family of 13, ten of which grew to maturity of which now only one sister, Mrs. Hanna Whitten of Rowan survives. In 1870, she came with her parents to Iowa in a covered wagon, finally settling on a farm near Dows. She taught school for several years in the schools around Dows. She was married to George C. Tutin of Dows April 26, 1880 and in 1882 they went to South Dakota and settled near Harold and lived there since that date. Ada Close, their daughter and only child preceded her mother in death in 1922. Her two children, Rosa and George, after the death of their mother, made their home with their grandparents. In April 1938 she was stricken with pneumona and since that time has been an invalid. She came with her husband to Iowa last fall spending a few weeks at Spirit Lake and Rowan. Since Thanksgiving she has been at the home of Mrs. Ada Lynk at Coon Rapids, where she passed away. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband who is confined to his bed and was unable to attend the services; a sister, Mrs. Hannah Whitten of Rowan; two grandchildren, Mrs. Rose Fertig of Holabird, South Dakota and George Sayre, who is looking after their ranch near Harold, South Dakota.
