A heavy cold, caught a week ago, together with complications due to her advanced age, caused the death of the aged pioneer. Mrs. Strode was born in Wayne County, Indiana, April 8, 1850, and spent the early years of her life there, where she attended school. After her marriage, Mrs. Strode left Indiana with her husband and came to Kansas, coming by rail to Fort Scott and then going by stage to Cherokee in 1872. They lived here until their deaths. Mr. Strode died in 1922 in his 77th year. The pioneer resident was a member of the Christian church and it was from there that services were conducted at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon by Rev. G.W. Corporan. Burial was in the Cherokee cemetery. Mrs. Strode is survived by one daughter, Miss Hazel Strode, a son, Charles Strode, a granddaughter, Miss Madge Strode; her step-mother, Mrs. R. Baldridge of Parsons; a sister, Mrs. Sadie Thornburg of Richmond, Ind.; and three step-brothers, H.M. Baldridge of Parsons, D.C. Baldridge of Los Angeles and T.C. Baldridge of Granville, Texas.
