She passed away at her home in Marion Ia., after a short illness, on Sept. 19, 1923, having reached the ripe age of 85 years, 8 months, 2 days. She was the fourth of a family of ten children, including five sons and five daughters. With her parents, she came overland to Iowa in the autumn of 1856, making her home with them in the vicinity of Marion. At the early age of fourteen, together with her mother and sister Sophia, now Mrs. Webb, she united with the Baptist Church, and has been a faithful and consistent member through all the years. She has been twice a member of the church in Marion, which was her church home at the time of her death, but was for a long period of years a member of the church at Jordan's Grove. She was the second wife of Calvid Hubbard Whitcomb, to whom she was married May 17th, 1866, and who preceded her in death, having departed this life on March 10th, 1904. Two sons and four daughters came to gladden their happy home, and to grow to manhood and womanhood under her helpful influence. For them she lived in loving self-forgetfulness, to them she gave her best, her life, her all, and with them she lives still in loving remembrance. She leaves to mourn their loss Minnie E. Whitcomb, of Marion, Walter O., of Mitchell, South Dakota, Albert E. of Springville, Iowa, Mrs. C.A. Jones of De Smet, South Dakota, Mrs. E.O. Zinzer[sic] and Metta May of Marion, together with thirteen grandchildren. Of her father's family she is survived by one brother, Cornelius Bunting and two sisters, Mrs. Milas Webb and Mrs. W.E. Jones, all of Marion, besides other relatives, friends and neighbors. Mrs. Whitcomb was of a reserved unassuming nature. She did not make friends as quickly as do some, but long retained the ones she made. She had a deep, abiding faith in God which impressed itself upon her loved ones, and it may be truly said of her, as of one of other days, "She believed in God with all her house." Here is the supreme test of faith, and here she was not found wanting. The funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Marion, Ia., Sept. 23, 1923, and conducted by the pastor Rev. J.E. Bruner and assisted by Rev. S.D. Noah. Interment was made in Oak Shade Cemetry[sic]. Transcribed by CJeanealogy #47474846
