She and her husband farmed near Edgewood until 1885, when they moved to South Dakota. Later they returned to Iowa and lived in Oelwein for 20 years. Wooldridge, 102, of Edgewood died Tuesday at the home of her 81-year-old daughter, Melissa Jane Dowd. She has been bed ridden since in early March. She was born Nov. 28, 1835, in Indiana and came to Iowa at the age of 15, and had lived in Edgewood ever since. She was married to John A. Wooldridge, who passed away in 1917. Surviving are four other children: Mrs. Ellen Brewer, Edgewood; F.I. Wooldridge, Edgewood; Otis Wooldridge, Clear Lake; Jesse Wooldridge, Lebanon, S.D.; 29 grandchildren,. 40 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday afternoon from the M.E. church in Edgewood. ============================= Suggested edit: From military & pension records: John Wooldridge said that in October 1859 they moved from near Volga City to near Edgewood; in October 1860 they moved to Elkport; and in November 1861 they returned to near Edgewood. Working as a cooper and farmer, John chopped wood for Rev. Newell Bixby, worked with Henry Joys and Nelson Firman, worked for the father of Sears Richards during haying and harvest season, worked with William Bacon in road-teaming fourteen miles to market, and road-teamed with George Elliot and William Rosekrans. Before his enlistment he was described as "a strong healthy able-bodied man inured to constant hard manual labor" but, after leaving Davenport on March 23d, he contracted double pneumonia due to exposure on the upper deck of a transport ship during a severe storm and was hospitalized in Memphis on March 26th. He remained in the Adams USA General Hospital until November 1864 before being released to join his regiment. Postwar, he was pensioned for disease of the heart and lungs resulting from the wartime illness but, despite being seriously impaired, "he was obliged to labor, having a large family to support." They did not move to South Dakota in 1885. Instead, from the day he returned from the war through October 1903 John said their post office address was Edgewood or "near" Edgewood.
