Description	:	Mary Ellen Zander, 84, of Iowa City, formerly of rural Tripoli, died Tuesday, Aug. 5. She was born Aug. 16, 1923, in Fayette County, daughter of Lucian and Ellen Margarot Poor Hicks. She married Arnold Zander at the Lutheran Church Parsonage, Arlington, on Feb. 25, 1944. He died July 30, 1979. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1940. Mrs. Zander and her husband farmed near Tripoli until his death. She worked at the Northeast Council of Substance Abuse. Preceded in death by: two sisters, Vera Wilson and Lucille McClavey; a brother, Jesse Hicks; and a great-grandson. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church of Crane Creek, rural Tripoli, with burial in the church cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Denver. Memorials: may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church, Iowa City Hospice or to the Lymphoma Society.
