ESTLACK DIES EARLY WEDNESDAY - The Haigler News Friday, January 15, 1926 Mrs. Mary E. Estlack, one of the grand old ladies of this section, passed to her reward at 8:30 a.m., Wednesday morning, of dropsy, following a lingering illness which lasted over a period of years. Mrs. Estlack answered the call of her maker in her 69th year. Although the end came quite suddenly it was known by her family and physician for some time that she could not be expected to linger long. For months Mrs. Estlack seemed resigned to the ravage being exacted by the malady and was prepared to meet her maker calmly. She seldom ever complained of pain and was always patient. For several years she had made her home alone in her residence here, but was visited daily by her son, Newton, who gave his mother every attention. During the last year or two she seldom left home. Mrs. Estlack is survived by eight children, four daughters and four sons; one sister, twenty-one grand-children and five great grandchildren. Newton is the only one of the family who reside here and with the exception of Mrs. Wilson Clark of Stratton, will be the only member of the to attend the funeral. Three daughters reside on the Pacific Coast and three sons in Rock county, this state. The last rites will be conducted by Rev. Geo. Carter at the M. E. church this afternoon at 2:30 p.m., and interment will follow in the Haigler cemetery. ---------- OBITUARY Mary Ellen Leonard Estlack was born April 12th, 1856, at Haveral, Vermont , and died Jan. 13th, 1926 at Haigler, Nebr.. When she was seven years of age she moved with her parents to Iowa where she remained until Sept. 16th, 1873 at which time she was united in marriage to Robert Newton Turpin, at Council Bluffs, Iowa. In 1881 they moved to Nebraska and settled in Rock county. To this union was born ten children, five boys and five girls. Two of the children Francis C. and Susie preceded their mother in death, also her husband, Robert Newton Turpin, died on May 18, 1893. On April 8th, 1902 Mrs. Turpin was married to Jas. Edward Estlack, at Butte Nebr., and it was in January 1909 they came to live at Haigler. On Nov. 12th, 1919 Mr. Estlack passed onto his reward. The children are: --Mrs. Julia Jerges, of Everett, Wash.; James Robert Turpin, of Mariaville, Neb., John M. Turpin of Mariaville, Neb; Mrs. Polly Pearl Watson, of Pt. Angeles Wash; William Watson Turpin, of Mariaville, Nebr; Lettie Arvelle Turpin, of Los Angeles, Calif; Newton Turpin, of Haigler, Nebr. and Mrs. Nellie Clark, of Stratton, Nebr. The deceased is survived by twenty three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
