Obituary for Mary Ellen Morningstar Smith Fogle Mrs. Mary Ellen Smith Fogle, 75, of 7103 Blue Mountain Road, Thurmont, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late James Earl Smith who died in 1951, and her second husband, the late Raymond J. Fogle, who died in 1972. Born March 29, 1915, in Frederick County, she was a daughter of the late George Joseph and Jenny Stiner [sic, Starner] Morningstar. Surviving are four children, Betty J. Shorb and husband Ronald of Thurmont, Shirley A. Baker and friend Bob of Clayton, Ga., Charles D. Smith and wife Linda, and Linda L. Redman and husband Larry, all of Thurmont; two stepdaughters; four sisters, Katherine Few and Lana Wilson, both of Frederick, and Julia Kendall and Dorothy Moser, both of Thurmont; 11 grandchildren, two of which she raised, Tina M. Myers and husband Thomas of Thurmont and Kimberly S. Smith of Baltimore; 14 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Fogle was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary E. Smith; three sons, Bob E. Smith, George Smith and Earl Smith; two sisters, Sarah Mercer and Hilda Martin; and one brother, George Morningstar. Mrs. Fogle is at the Thurmont funeral home of Robert E. Dailey & Son, 615 E. Main St., where the family will receive friends 7-9 p.m., Friday, Jan. 11. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Barry E. Hidey, pastor of Weller United Methodist Church, Thurmont, officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery, Thurmont.
