She was first married to Charley Ware on June 7, 1899, in Wapello County, Iowa. She married Newton Alderman on May 13, 1907, in Ottumwa, Iowa. ------------------------- Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” September 29, 1954: Mrs. Mary E. “Nellie” Alderman, 73, died at Alma’s Nursing home at 510 South Ward street Tuesday at 11 p.m. The daughter of Patrick and Mary Crowley Courtney, she was born March 7, 1881, in Wapello county. She had been a resident of Ottumwa for the pat 28 years. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic church and of the Altar and Rosary society of the church. Surviving are one son, William Ware of Ottumwa, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Minnie Orman of Ottumwa and a brother, Neil Courtney of Floris. She was preceded in death by her husband, Newton Alderman, in 1930, one sister and 11 brothers. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the Johnson funeral chapel and at 9 o’clock at St. Patrick’s church, where a requiem high mass will be celebrated by the Rev. J.J. Collins, pastor. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
