Havighurst of Fort Dodge officiated. Mrs. P.W. Van Metre was organist and Mildred Mattison, soloist. Pallbearers were O.E. Franck, Charles Cooper, Arthur Winneke, Dr. G.A. Purdie, Harry Ramthun and William Brian. Burial was beside her husband in Alice cemetery at Conrad, Ia. Burial was beside her husband in Alice cemetery at Conrad, Ia. Mary Ellen Lighter was born March 31, 1871, near Mechanicsville, Ia., in Cedar county where she grew to womanhood. She died February 4, 1959, at Friendship Haven, Fort Dodge, Ia. On March 11, 1891, she was united in marriage to Charley Wallace Lighter. Nine children, all of whom are still living, were born of this union. They are Charles Eugene Lighter, Phoenix, Ariz.; Mrs. Hyke Poppinga, Dallas, Ia.; Mrs. H.C. Shrader, Rockwell City, Ia.; Mrs. Ernest Forsell and Mrs. E.J. Eubank, of Alderwood Manor, Wash.; Leonard Lighter of Milaca, Minn.; Willard C. Lighter of Cleveland, O; Kermit S. Lighter of Cottage Grove, Ore., and Mrs. Richard T. Bush of Plover. The family lived for many years in Rolfe and all the children graduated from the Rolfe high school. In later years they lived in Minneapolis, Minn., Clear Lake, Rockwell City and Melcher, Ia. For the past four and a half years Mrs. Lighter was a resident of Friendship Haven. She was an active member of the Methodist church, the W.S.C.S., the W.C.T.U., and the Courtesy Club at Friendship Haven. She was a great lover of flowers and at Friendship Haven she leaves a permanent memorial in the form of two flowering borders of the plants she loved and cared for while she lived at the home. Her husband, Charley Lighter, passed away February 17, 1951. Besides her children she is survived by 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Eunice Chamberlain of Mt. Vernon, Ia., and a host of friends. Attending the funeral from a distance were Leonard Lighter, Willard Lighter and Mr. and Mrs. H Poppinga. Citing: "Mrs. Mary E.
