She had enjoyed unusually good health most of her life, with a clear, alert mind to match an active body. About three years ago she began to fail in health and strength and gave up her work as librarian in Sterling after 38 years of faithful service there. She went to Omaha to the home of her daughter and granddaughter, Mrs. Loretta Dilger and Miss Ruth Hollenback, and remained there until the spring of 1958 when she fell and suffered a broken hip. Then it was learned that she had cancer of the bone and there was nothing that medical science could offer as a cure. She was in the hospital awhile, then entered a nursing home and had excellent care until her death. Mary Ellen, daughter of Thomas and Ellen McBride Travers, was born at Davenport, Iowa on September 8, 1866. She received her education at a private elementary school and finished at the Immaculate Conception Academy at Davenport. She was married to J. P. Hollenback on Jan. 14, 1890, at Effingham, Kans. Two children were born to them, C. F. Hollenback, M.D., of Omaha, who died December 20, 1949 and Mrs. Loretta Dilger, Omaha, who survives her mother. Mr. Hollenback also preceded his wife in death. There are three grandchildren, Mrs. Herman Effken, Pawnee City, Mrs. Irene Pigago, Omaha, and Miss Ruth Hollenback, Omaha, also three great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
