Lois Burg, Vicki Metzger, Verna Smith, and Beverly Pote were in charge of flowers. Interment was in Victoria Cemetery near Massena. Steen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mary Elsie (Bagshaw) Henkel was born on June 28, 1912 to Charles L. and Inez E. (Barrowcliff) Bagshaw on a farm southeast of Massena. After Mary finished school, she cared for her Grandmother Bagshaw, Aunt Ada and her Uncles Rob and Abe. On September 1, 1948 Mary was united in marriage to Albert E. Henkel at the United Methodist Church in Massena. They lived on the Bagshaw family farm southeast of Massena until they retired in 1971 and moved to their new home in Bridgewater. In Mary's lifetime she pieced and quilted over 150 quilts, her favorite being the log cabin quilt. Mary and Albert enjoyed gardening together and traveling. One of their favorite trips being their trip to England. Mary was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Bridgewater. She was active in the United Methodist Women's quilting group and always enjoyed and gave generously to their yearly bazaars. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Inez Bagshaw; brother, Robert; and sister, Leila Bagshaw. She is survived by her husband, Albert of Bridgewater; her sister, Thelma Taddicken of Denver, Colorado; three nieces and four nephews; one sister-in-law, Clidie Bagshaw of Massena; other relatives and many friends.
