On December 21, 1917, she was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Herbert E. Uhl. At the home of her parents near Valley Falls, death came to her after an illness of three weeks. Although she had been very low, all thought within the last week, she was growing stronger each day, until at 10 o'clock a.m. the day before death, a decided change came over her when she lapsed into a semi-conscious condition, and grew rapidly worse till the end came at 11:40 p.m. on date above mentioned. Elsie, as she was always called, grew to womanhood in our midst, and in the same home saw the initial gleams of the morning sun, also the Shadoe which marked the close of her call to her brief career. She was of a cheerful disposition always ready to lend a helping hand in all church, Sunday School, or social work that was for the benefit of any good cause. In May, 1914, she gave her heart to God, uniting with the M. E. Church at Graggs Chapel, and her christian character stood out for itself for what she considered a duty. All who knew her loved her. She leaves to mourn her loss: her husband and baby, Millard, of three weeks; Father and mother, four sisters and two brothers as follows: Mrs. James Meredith, Lizzie and Albert of Valley Falls, Mrs. Frank Johnson of Denison, Mrs. Earl Mumford of Winston, Mo., and William of Rock Creek. All were with her when the end came except Mrs. Mumford. A host of relatives and friends will deeply feel the loss of one who had just lived among them long enough to entwine her heart about them. Funeral services were held Sunday at 11:30 a.m from the family home by Rev. Kimball. She was laid to rest in the Farrar Cemetery near her nephew little Harold Meredith who was the first and only one that had been called to the great beyond. CARD OF THANKS We sincerely desire to thank the kind neighbors and friends who so kindly assisted us in the sickness and death of our loved one.
