She was born on April 24, 1924, in rural Arlington, Iowa, to Theodore Peter and Jessie Mae (Oulman) Frederick. She attended Lamont Consolidated School and Arlington School. Read More	Mary Emma Batterson, 87, Wadena, Iowa, died Sunday, July 3, 2011, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, Iowa. She was born on April 24, 1924, in rural Arlington, Iowa, to Theodore Peter and Jessie Mae (Oulman) Frederick. She attended Lamont Consolidated School and Arlington School. Mary was united in marriage to Selie "Lyle" Batterson on January 18, 1941, in West Union, Iowa. Five children were born to this union. In 1942, they moved to Colorado, where they rented a ranch between Sterling and Akron, Colorado, for 4½ years. They moved back to Iowa in 1947, where they rented a farm near Wadena. In 1949, they bought their farm on Kornhill Road southwest of Wadena, where Mary lived for 62 years. Mary was a member of the Wadena Community Church. She will be remembered for her homemade bread and noodles. She enjoyed gardening, making quilts and visiting with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed having an annual picnic on the 4th of July with her family on the farm. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include her two children, Lyla (Lowell) Lamphier, Wadena, Ray (Anne) Batterson, Gilbert, AZ; seventeen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; two daughter-in-laws, Judy Batterson, Fredericksburg, Janet Batterson, West Union, and two sisters, Helen Persson, Cedar Rapids and Virginia Westover, Gaylord, MI. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle in 1994; three sons, Frank Batterson, Lee Batterson, Dale Batterson; three siblings, Vera Zuercher, Bessie Scott, Theodore "Bud" Frederick and one daughter-in-law, Kay Batterson. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2011, at 11:00 am at the Wadena Community Church in Wadena, Iowa. The Pastor Rusty Phillips will officiate. Burial will follow in the Wadena Cemetery in Wadena, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, from 3-7 pm at the Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Elgin, Iowa, and one hour before services at the church on Thursday.
