O. Brown. She received many cards and gifts including a post-card shower from East Dover neighbors. She received callers throughout the day. Mrs. Brown was born in Orland, Oct. 8, 1844, the daughter of Matilda Meade and Ozro Saunders. She had five sisters, none of whom are now living. The family went from Orland to Dix Island, then to East Dover. When Mrs. Brown was 15 [ed: 24] years of age, she was married to Franklin A. Brown, a Civil War veteran, in November, 1868, and they made their home in East Dover, where he operated a grist mill for a great many years. Of their two sons, Maurice O., is now a physician in Dover-Foxcroft, and Louis F. still lives in the family home in East Dover. Her husband died in 1891 [ed: 1892] and she continued to live in East Dover with Louis until March of this year when she came to Dover-Foxcroft to stay with Dr. and Mrs. M. O. Brown and her grandchildren, Philip W. and Ruth W. Brown. Mrs. Brown is the oldest living member of East Dover Grange, joining in 1881, two years after its organization. She has the Golden Sheaf, presented by the National Grange to 50 year members. Her father, Mr. Saunders, was the first master of this Grange and prior to his death held the gold headed cane, honorary insignia of the oldest inhabitant of Dover-Foxcroft. She lived a happy, active life in East Dover, taking a great interest in the community and doing much work in the Grange. She is the last surviving member of the Over Fifty club, a social group which planned a great many outings and had an influencial part in community affairs. She is honored by young and old and "Grammy" Brown holds an affectionate place in the hearts of her many friends. Obituary, from The Bangor Daily News, 10 January 1938: MRS. ESTELLE F. BROWN DOVER-FOXCROFT, Jan. 9 The death of Mrs. Estelle F. [ed: S.] Brown, 93, occurred this morning at the home of her son, Dr. Maurice O. Brown. Mrs. Brown was born in Orland, daughter of Ozro and Matilda Mead Saunders, but spent most of her life in East Dover. She married Franklin A. Brown, a veteran of the Civil War and prominent resident of East Dover, who died about 45 years ago. In recent years she has made her home with her sons, Louis F. Brown of East Dover and Dr. Maurice O. Brown of this town. Mrs. Brown was known and loved by everyone in the community where she had made her home for so many year[s]. She was the oldest member of East Dover Grange, which she joined in 1881. Surviving besides her sons are two grandchildren, Miss Ruth W. Brown and Philip W. Brown, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services, which will be private, will be held at the home of Dr. Maurice O. Brown, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Herbert Livingston officiating. Friends are asked to omit flowers.
